If there is one thing Mandy and Tammy can’t agree upon, it’s which Durkheimian category of suicide they would theoretically belong to. Durkheim was a sociologist whose findings showed that suicide is not just psychologically individualistic, but related to trends in society. He also receives 4 out of 5 kissy faces on Mandy’s kissable scale.
Durkheim's book Suicide defines four types of suicide including Egotistic, Altruistic, Anomic, and Fatalistic. Egotistic and Altruistic have to do with social integration. Egotistic means there is not enough social integration and Altruistic means there is too much social integration. Anomic and Fatalistic suicide are related to social regulation. Anomic means there is not enough regulations (or they are unclear) and Fatalistic means there is too much regulation. Who cares, right? Where are the tits? Well, it happens that this is a perfect tool to describe the personalities of full blooded Tammys and Mandys.
A Tammy would engage in Egotistic or Anomic suicide because she has the potential to be removed from society and not be convinced of society having any meaning.
A Mandy would engage in Altruistic or Fatalistic suicide because she has the potential to be too engrossed in society and place too much value on rules.
