In Greek, Medieval, and Renaissance thought, the traditional four elements form the basis for a theory of medicine and later psychological typology known as the four temperaments. Each of the temperaments were associated with particular physical and mental characteristics and the result is a personality classification. Despite its inability to change the words related to body secretions and diseases, this personality chart can be loosely applied to Tammy, Mandy, Courtney, and Misty. This interpretation suggests that Misty and Courtney are the emotionally unstable versions of Tammy and Mandy, which undermines the idea that Courtney is the well adjusted one because she is elated to just have macaroni and cheese and a Garfield doll.
Phlegmatic: Tammy
A phlegmatic person is calm and unemotional. While phlegmatics are generally self-content, their shy personality can often inhibit enthusiasm in others and make themselves resistant to change. They are very controlled, consistent, relaxed, rational, and observant.
Sanguine: Mandy
A person who is sanguine is generally light-hearted, fun-loving, a people person, loves to entertain, spontaneous, and confident; however, she can be day-dreamy.
Choleric: Courtney
A choleric person is not frightened by difficulties and is very passionate. Whenever the choleric is bent upon carrying out her plans, she gets very excited. She considers even her very defects as being justified and worthy of praise; for instance, her pride, obstinacy, and anger.
Melancholic: Misty
A melancholic can become overly preoccupied with the tragedy and cruelty in the world. She is also often a perfectionist, being very particular about what she wants and how she wants it in some cases. This often results in being unsatisfied with one's own works and always pointing out to themselves what could and should be improved.

Sissy, you are clearly the expert, (and Misty is clearly the melancholic), but what do you think about it working this way: Tammy is the Choleric (Fight or Fuck--although the optimism bit is a problem); Mandy is the Phlegmatic; and Courtney is the Sanguine (although the leadership bit is a problem). What do you think? I think it all has to do with the fact that any sane person wants to be Courtney, and sanguinity is the most appealing character. Please enlighten!
While it’s true that Courtney means well and is loving, she represents the dim consumer [America] who has no real knowledge of where anything comes from or how anything outside her life works. This would be fine except she is profiting from injustice in the rest of the world. Plus her contentment is derived from external factors rather than internal; although it doesn’t take much to please her, if the Nickelodeon and onion rings are taken away, Courtney is anxious and unhappy and, therefore, she isn’t really that stable.
I think the traditional Tammy is actually very controlled, stable, and thoughtful- and because of this she realizes there is no God. There is also the fact that she was kicked out on the street when she was seven years old and huffing glue when she was eight, but I think she is actually more stable than Courtney because she has been forced to be self reliant. The more off the handle a Tammy is, the closer she is to being a Courtney. Plus, she is definitely more introverted and Mandy is more extraverted.
I should probably find a real job.
